LCD Monitor intermittant "Out of Range"

My laptop (Gateway MX6421) sometimes has issues being out of range even in
text mode.  I switch to X and back to the first terminal (CTL-ALT-F1) a
couple of times and it usually fixes it.  An yes, it is an ATI.
