I use Xine, and it's played everything I've ever thrown at it. With the
exception of encrypted AVI's. (Which I don't care much about). The only gripe
I have with Xine is that, one is now unable to change the video brightness on
video clips, as it's all greyed out.. Probably a Xinelib problem.. :-(
