Does Linux have digital camera support or card reader support?

Not sure if I'm on the right list.  Does Fedora have a list similar to 
Mandriva's "Expert" list?

I have a neat-o digital camera I want to hook up to my Linux box. Will I 
need a card reader (does Linux even support card readers?) or can I just 
hook it up directly?  The interface is USB 2.0 and the camera is a 
Cannon PowerShot A710 IS.
