Help, I buggered my Java!

I had jpackage 1.6 installed with Sun's JDK 1.5.0_09.  All was working 
well.  Then I decided to download the 1.6 JDK.  I installed jpackage 
1.7b, Sun's 1.6 JDK and the jpackage compat for 1.6.  It all installed 
just fine and java works great from the command line but not from 
Firefox.  If I do and about:plugins it shows 1.6 is installed and 
correct.  The link in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins is correct.  Checking 
alternatives appears to be all correct.

Any idea where to look for my problem?
