I know windows 2000 does not work in safe mode without legacy USB
support enabled in BIOS.
I was surprised that when I got the screen in XP for the boot into safe
mode or boot normally, the USB keyboard did not work to make a
selection. I had to wait for the timeout to expire in winXP. Since the
grub menu worked for making a selection, I assumed that either winXP was
using some non-BIOS features to detect the keyboard.
Oh well, I will not worry about the peculiarity on my system too much. I
hardly ever get the safe mode prompt. Since grub works with the USB
keyboard, I am satisfied.
