Strange yum message.

Don't know.  Try something like

rpm -q --whatprovides /usr/lib/libsane.so.1.0.16

and for .17 and see where they came from.

Also try

objdump -x /usr/lib/libsane.so.1.0.16 | grep SONAME

and for .17
