Combine a 2.4 GHz pc with a 500 Mhz pc?

Try setting up the 2.4GHz machine as a desktop server machine and use the
500Mhz box
as a thinclient to that.

Preferences->Remote Desktop
Allow users to view your desktop

Then use a VNC client on the 500Mhz box to view the display of the faster
machine.
