I believe sendmail will try to ident the connecting client by 
default but you can turn it off by setting the "IDENT" parameter to 
"0" (zero) in sendmail's configuration file, from what I've read.  
Take a look at:

/usr/share/sendmail-cf/README

for "confTO_IDENT".
