Alsactl and FC4 bootup conflict - feedback

I did copy Alexander's lines into modprobe.conf, and commented out the line 
in /etc/rc.d/rc.local.  The result was a shed-load of warnings during bootup, 
and no sound.  I've deleted the new lines and put the rc.local line back, and 
it booted without problems this morning.
