OpenOffice does not find Java

Dear All

I have OpenOffice 2.0.1 installed with the rpms downloaded from OOo's
web-site. When running Base, I get an error message telling me that

"No Java installation could be found".

However,

$ java -version
java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing)
$

Any ideas?
