sound configuration setup failure

dmesg has only this in the log, what more should it have reported for 
audio detections?

intel8x0: clocking to 48000

also weird, in the soundcard detection, the vendor is unknown.
as this is pci, am i looking at a missing vendor code for the
driver? wagging now.. ???
