bash problem!

Hm Prelink can add things to executables, maybe that is the size difference.

try

ls -lZ /bin/bash

on both good and bad boxes to look for selinux context problems.  Also
running a verify of the files from the Bash package...

# rpm -qV bash

should typically give no output.
