C library for string manipulation (OT)

Hello,
I am sorry that this is OT question. But I am wondering if anyone knows where
I can get C library for string manipulation that extends or has more
functions than the one currently provided by default with GCC (ie. strings.h
and string.h)
To take an example, I'm looking for library that implemented (some of the)
functions here, or something similar:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.strings.php
(I don't need all of those, but some functions on that list is useful for
string processing/manipulation. The HTML-related string manipulation
functions are rather irrelevant.)
Of course one can always write ones own functions, but I just don't want to
reinvent the wheel if it already exists. I did some searches but haven't
found anything that I am looking for.
Thanks for any help / info.
