Did you add the printer?

Desktop -> System Settings -> Printing

click "New"
Go through the wizard, and select the proper queue type.

I'm guessing (might be wrong) you want either "Network Unix" or
"Networked JetDirect" (the latter is what I use for my LaserJet 4 -
which uses a JetDirect card)
