Chris said he's using DHCP. He also mentioned a Windows network,

If he's getting IP addresses from DHCP, those addresses can change from 
time to time (and FC on at least two of my systems does so for no 
apparent reason, where Apples and boxes running other distros don't), 
and whatever he puts in /etc/hosts will probably become wrong.


If there's a DHCP server around, there's probably an approved DNS too. 
Let's get the facts.
