In the past, that was how I *first* found out how to get my hands on
Linux. Though It's possible that a search engine might land me right at
the downloads directory without any such information.

It's an approach that I would take, though bearing in mind what I said
above, I'd try and make sure that the download page (the one that simply
lists the available files) has some of that information on it as well.
