there probably is pertinent gstreamer-plugins-mp3 from the right repo
for FC-2 but I have long since departed from FC-2 to remember and these
things have very much advanced since FC-2.

You would find that many of these things have improved in an up-to-date
FC-4 setup but getting there will involve some pain.
