Or even better, run ttywatch on the remote machine.  It's in extras.
With ttywatch, your serial console is permanently logged
into /var/log/ttywatch/, with proper log file rotation; and you get a
telnet-to-serial relay so that any time you want to connect to the
serial port, you just telnet to it and you get two-way communication
with the console (so things like serial debuggers or serial login can
work fine.)
