Jim,
when adding new user, i have exactly the same problem. Even login as
root. so i dont think it could come from any foder in the user dir.
SElinux is disable.
I tried to remove all the gnome-panel and deps, and install them back,
but the problem is exactly the same. The only thing i found was this :

but i cant find any thing with such a gnome-segv anywhere :(
kde works, but i am a gnome user :-/
