Laptop speakers wont work

Hi, 
I have Fedora release 4 installed. I am not able to hear any sounds through the laptop speakers, but if i connect my headphones or external speakers to the headphone socket in my laptop, i can hear the sounds. are there any settings to turn on my laptop speakers?
