Wide Screen not supported? Gnome looks bad, is unusable.

Well, I just got my new Westinghouse 1920x1080 display working this
weekend, and had to generate a new ModeLine entry for my xorg.conf
file to describe the 1920x1080 mode before gnome would offer it to
me as a possible resolution.

On the x.org web site, you can goto the wiki and search for ModeLine
to find an article about how to use information from the /var/log/Xorg.0.log
file to generate the proper ModeLine.

My contempt for the mental processes of the X designers rose to new
levels when I discovered that all you have to do is cut & paste numbers
it already knows and prints in the log into the right columns in a ModeLine
directive. Why X can't do this automatically is beyond my comprehension :-).
