cannot modprobe <module> after installing some kernel module in FC5 - help needed

I built an own kernel modules by compiling fsam7400 and installing it. So far so good. But when 
trying to load this new modules by modprobe, I get an error message, and the the load is rejected:

FATAL: Error inserting fsam7400 
(/lib/modules/2.6.16-1.2122_FC5/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2100/fsam7400.ko): Invalid argument

Can somebody help? I think, kernel-2.6.16-1.2122_FC5 has been compiled with with an elder gcc than 
the actually installed gcc.
