auto-detaching e-mail attachments

I have been scouring the 'net looking for procmail recipes to "detach" 
and save file attachments from an e-mail message.

The closest thing I have found reference to is something called 
mimedecode... but that's not on my FC5 system, I cannot find it in 
extras, nor anywhere else.

I also found a reference to metamail and mailcap.

Oddly enough mailcap is installed, but metamail is not. man mailcap 
explains it is a file used by metamail...  So it seems strange that I 
would have mailcap but not metamail.

Regardless of that... does anybody have any suggestions for how I can 
automatically detach and save file attachments?
