There were some serious faults with the initial Xorg installation that
produced things like that.  An update fixed it.  Try that.

Some motherboards need you to reboot in a different way, there are
kernel parameters that set this up.  I had to do that with one of mine,
which had the same problem.  Edit your grub.conf file, and try adding
something like reboot=b onto the end of the kernel line.  Have a look
through the kernel documentation, the "kernel-parameters.txt" text
should help you determine what you need.
