Temporary setback. On checking I found that I had allocated all of hda. hdb
was in need of sorting. It had a number of partitions on, only one of which
I wanted to keep. It's not absolutely vital - I think everything is backed
up - but it would have helped. gparted appeared to do all that I had asked
it to do, and everything looked fine, but the final scan reported the whole
disk as unallocated! I shall try testdisk in the morning to see whether it
can be recovered, but if fdisk can't see the partitions I'm not hopeful.
Still, it does seem a great utility, so it's worth a try.
