/usr/bin/ld cannot find -lSM when making

Hello, list.

I'm trying to make a plugin for multisync for evolution2, and although
configure works fine, when I make I get a:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lSM

I do have /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.a, so what could be the problem here?

I'm really lost with this, so any ideas or help will be appreciated.
