Geting some rubbish in the name of the disk

Simple:  Don't use such characters in the name.

Look at the ISO manuals/specifications to find out what's allowed there.
ISO9660 was very limited, revisions to the spec became more lax.
Maximum compatibility is most likely to be with things done to the
strictest level, though.

No idea.  Standalone players are wildly different from each other,
that's what you get for not adhering to specifications, or having sloppy
specifications.  But I've only seen a few players that write the volume
name onto the screen.
