Are RWs a problem?

I'd have to pull out the furniture to check, but as far as I can remember the 
dvd-rom and dvd-rw drives are on ide2 and using 40-wire cable.  It's worked 
in the past, though as I mentioned earlier, the problem appears to be related 
to rw disks, which I don't normally use.
