finding mysql

According to Add/Remove Application, MySQL has been installed, but I
don't know how to find it.

When I try just entering 'mysql' command I get this error message:

[root at sonyc /]# mysql
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

MySQL doesn't seem to be installed in any of the places that my books
suggest it might be.

So how do I find it and how do I start the client?
