FC5: error configuring / starting xorg on Epia system...

I'm having trouble getting X running after a fresh install w/ FC5.
This is on an Via Epia M1000 w/ CLE266 chipset.

The screen stays blank (no signal to monitor) and X hangs. This happens
when I try to start X with the default xorg.conf or try to run
system-config-display.

X does seem to start, and the log actually looks fine, but nothing
displays. Gnome processes show up in the process list (below) and I
need to do a ctrl-alt-backspace to kill X. But there's no signal to the
monitor.

Everything worked fine w/ FC4 (although it was a different monitor).
This is a fresh install - not an upgrade, and I did re-format. Also,
there are no 3rd party drivers at all.

Any ideas?
