yes, it's called vi (thats vee-eye, not vye.)
vi name_of_textfile

(well, technically it's actually called vim)

If you are completely new to vi(m) then it might be worth checking if 
nano is installed  - it has a much shallower learning curve!
just try 
nano name_of_textfile

the keyboard shortcuts you'll need are at the bottom of the screen.
^X == crtl+x

I would still recommend learning the basics of vi(m) as it is the one 
editor likely to exist by default on every UNIX-type OS.
