resizing windows (not)

i can't seem to be able
to shorten the yumex window
vertically, so i have to
hide my bottom panel to
get to the buttons on the bottom.

with pan, i can't shorten it
horizontally, therefore i un-
maximize it & drag it to access
the drag-bar in the message pane.

is this some kind of conspiracy
to get me to upgrade from svga to xga?
