I have an Nvidia MX 4000 video card. X comes up far enough to give me
a blue screen and a mouse pointer. The FC5 system worked fine before I
installed the two nvidia modules:
kmod-nvidia-1.0.8756-2.2.6.16_1.2111_FC5
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-1.0.8756-1.lvn5
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 4000 AGP 8x] (rev c1) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Unknown device 8197
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 248, IRQ 18
Memory at f2000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Memory at f4000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at f3fe0000 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [44] AGP version 3.0
Kernel is:
Linux 2.6.16-1.2111_FC5 #1 Thu May 4 21:16:58 EDT 2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
The Nvidia README indicates that this board is supported. From
Appendix A:
GeForce4 MX 4000 0x0185
And the PCI bus scan logged by startx indicates that it is finding the
correct identifier:
(II) PCI: 01:00:0: chip 10de,0185 card 1043,8197 rev c1 class 03,00,00 hdr 00

# To customise the XKB settings to suit your keyboard, modify the
# lines below (which are the defaults). For example, for a non-U.S.
# keyboard, you will probably want to use:
# Option "XkbModel" "pc102"
# If you have a US Microsoft Natural keyboard, you can use:
# Option "XkbModel" "microsoft"
#
# Then to change the language, change the Layout setting.
# For example, a german layout can be obtained with:
# Option "XkbLayout" "de"
# or:
# Option "XkbLayout" "de"
# Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
#
# If you'd like to switch the positions of your capslock and
# control keys, use:
# Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:swapcaps"
# Or if you just want both to be control, use:
# Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps"
