    /usr/sbin/gdm-binary
    []# rpm -qif /usr/sbin/gdm-binary
    Name        : gdm
     ...

So it's part of GDM, the Gnome Display Manager, a replacement for XDM.  Gdm
is just a script that starts gdm-binary.
