ok, i installed the new kernel. networking seems to be fine, but when
logging into gnome, after the panel starts, i never get the desktop at
all. if i revert back to the previous kernel, the desktop is drawn
without an issue.
i should mention that i mount my /home directories over nfs4 using ldap
automount.
