I'm starting to look into the sysfs, udev, hal stuff.  Any idea how mount
determines whether a device is busy?  Any idea where to find discussion
about sysfs, udev, hal issues?

The loop device work around has made my machine functional again, but I
just hate to leave this issue unsolved.
