I don't think you even need to boot into rescue mode to do this
(though it shouldn't hurt).  Paul Howarth detailed the steps for
another poster just yesterday in a thread titled "Resizing logical
volumes" (msg-id: 1147851477.1390.7.camel at laurel.intra.city-fan.org).
