Nasty Alsa Problem

Hi! I use FC5. Everything was working just yesterday, but now alsa won't
let normal users use the soundcard. Rhythmbox freezes when I start a
song, but plays fine (same mp3) under root. Wine freezes when I try to
set the sound settings, and leaves this nice message:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:851:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC shm
instance
ALSA lib pcm_dsnoop.c:556:(snd_pcm_dsnoop_open) unable to create IPC shm
instance
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:851:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) Killed
unable to create IPC shm instance

Totem dies when it tries to start, but kaffeine and amarok work fine
(both with xine backend). Noatun (and other kde apps) say that
permission is denied for soundserver. I checked and /dev/dsp was set to
read/write for root only, and invisible for anyone else. I changed that,
so the non-alsa programs work. What could of happened?!?!?! How can I
fix all of this? (p.s. there are no problems what-so-ever for root)
