building a new kernel for FC6 -- what *needs* to be there?

  following up on an earlier post, i want to clarify which kernel
options need to be selected and which can be tossed to build a
relatively-useful kernel for a "standard" system (by "standard", i
mean a fairly generic and relatively new desktop system), and i'll use
the default config file for FC6 as a starting point.

1) with a fairly new system, is there any value to selecting the
   deprecated APM?

2) i think we've already established that there's no need for any
   of the MTD stuff.

3) is there any value to Plug and Play support anymore?  isn't all
   of the PnP stuff superseded by hotplug these days?

4) at least the basic SCSI functionality needs to be there for things
   like USB storage.

5) i'm curious about why "Serial ATA" *isn't* selected by the default
   config file for the FC6 kernel.  or am i misreading something?
