I have the same problem at home yesterday after a fresh installation of
FC6 on a HP Pavillon a715
The previous kernel works perfectly.
I have found a couple of bugs which could help, even they did not solve
the problem for me. It seems to be related to acpi or apci freeze; by
the way I always have to use acpi=off to make the system working
The two bugs are here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=215154
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=215249

Hope this helps
