Cecilia,
Just give it another try,
dmesg | grep ipw*
you'll find something. I gave you the ipw2200 as example 'cause it's on my laptop. The intel drivers start with ipw*. Also check the output of:
less /etc/sysconfig/hwconf
The fist one should give you at lest a reply with the device not found. Once you have the right name, ie ipw2100 or ipw2200 will know what device firmware to look for. Don't worry, it will work I have this device working since FC3 and now it's easier to make it work. Keep on trying and let me know
