I ran:
modprobe sky2
and got some good feedback.
I then ran
ifup eth0
no output.
I ran:
ifconfig and got:

I got unable to reach network.
I feel like there is a step I forgot.

The sk98lin is obsolete, I think. You should try with sky2.
