Hi Guys and Gals,
My Introduction to the group.
My names Darren Foster. I'm a relative newbie to the fedora community.
Been using Fedora Core 5 now for the last month or so and finding it
very interesting so far I've broken a few things and happily fixed them
as you do. I'm a <spit> Windows </spit> Tech support guy for my local
community. Providing support to small businesses and individuals. I
have to say i love the ease in which windows breaks so easily (rubs
hands in a Bill Gates kinda way).
My aim is to learn enough about Fedora to implement it in a real world
scenario for some customers that are interested in using it as a file
server and also run their own web servers.
I have a book on LAMP that i have successfully used to set up a web
server and get it working which was great fun.
I have also successfully set up a SAMBA Server on my home network and
this all seems to be good.
My plee for help.....
YUM - serious
Um i think I'm in trouble. I cant get Yum to work for love nor money.
I've lost my yum.conf file in the /etc/ folder. The other yum files are
there including the yum.conf.bak file. I renamed the .bak file as
yum.conf but that hasn't solved the issue I'm having.
If i try and use Yum i get the following :-
Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: updates
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: updates
MPLAYER - less serious but would be nice to fix.
i installed MPLAYER the other day and for love nor money cant get it to
run. If i try to run it from the command line i get the following.
mplayer: error while loading shared
libraries: /usr/lib/libavformat.so.50: connot restore segment prot after
reloc: Permission Denied.
FLASH PLAYER - much less serious but would be nice.
Just won't work. Ive placed the plugin file in the plugin folder and
double checked it many a time and it still wont work.
OK Peeps
Thanks in advance for any advice or pointers you can give.
Regards,
Darren Foster
