messagebus, haldaemon fail at boot with vanilla 2.6.18.1 kernel on FC6

Messagebus and haldaemon fail to start on my FC6 box with a 2.6.18.1 vanilla 
kernel. However, with fedoras default kernel, 2.6.18-1.2798, both services 
start with no errors.

I upgraded from a FC5 installation and both services did work with the same 
2.6.18.1 kernel under FC5.

While I understand that custom kernels are not supported in FC6, I would be 
grateful if someone could point me to the additional kernel options / patches 
that I would need to apply in order to get messagebus and haldaemon working 
once again with a custom 2.6.18.1 kernel on my FC6 box.
