Panel drawer opening

With the fancy desktop effects enabled on FC6, opening  a panel drawer is
slow.  I click on the drawer icon and the first half of the top item in the
drawer pops up, there is a short (half-second or so) pause, then the rest of
the items in the drawer pop up.

Is there any way to tell it to just open the drawer, without that pause?
