Disaster now no GUI

For the X problem, running yum groupinstall "X Window System" might 
work. For the rest, you might try installing known missing packages in 
the hope that the installation will pull in all of the missing pieces.

That is probably what happened.

yum groupinstall "X Window System"
is my only guess.
