Well, I use bash here for almost anything I want to do, and just this week 
got around to re-printing the pdf manual for it, all 508 pages of it.  I'd 
printed it back in 2000, but its been improved and expanded enough I was 
getting out of date.  Your problem is one I solved some time back for some 
wrapper scripts I wrap around amanda to improve its function.
