Installing additional software packages in FC5

Hai...
              Is there any way to install additional software packages in
fedora core 5... I mean from fc5 dvd.... not from the internet...
Pirut  does it from the internet.... it cannot be used to install from local
media... I ve got mad of this....
Tried       rpm -ivh --aid  packagename        but it doesnt work for some
reason.. It shows failed dependencies.. !!!
Ive known that in previous redhat versions  the rpmdb package has to be
installed for --aid to work properly.
                           All suggestions welcome.....           And its
not just installing 2 or 3 rpms that iam asking...
this is the case of installing... packages with real dependency.... like
gnome or kde ... Earlier System-config-packages was good at this...
and --aid was better through command line...  Should i go and try synaptic
or other stuff... ?? please suggest your valuable opinions...
