High bit ASCII and FPC

Is that what used to be known as IBM graphics?  try typing:
echo -e "\033(U" and see if that helps, also try setting your 
/etc/sysconfig/i18n to get rid of UTF, that may also be a problem.

LANG="en_US"
SYSFONT="lat0-sun16"
SYSFONTACM="iso15"
