kernel panic on boot - kernel 2187

currently running on 2.6.17-1.2174_FC5

installed the 2.6.17-1.2187_FC5 rpm.

booted 2187.  kernel panic.  every time i boot that kernel.

re-downloaded the rpm and re-installed it.  there are no additional
modules -- plain vanilla kernel.

always panics like this.  but the 2174 and prior kernels come up just
fine.

this is the last screen before the panic:

sure would like to solve this problem.  anyone have any suggestions?
not sure what other information to collect.
